September 2019 Reunion – Washington, D.C.
Two years after the reunion at Fort Benning, thirty-eight classmates came together in our nation’s Capital to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of our graduation from OCS, renew friendships, and to reflect on the role that OCS had played in shaping our lives. Washington D.C. was chosen because it would serve as an inspiring and interesting venue for our gathering and a way to pay tribute to our service as officers in the U.S. Army. On the first evening we held a remembrance ceremony at the national Vietnam Memorial for classmates Tom Edgren and Jim DuPont, who had lost their lives in that conflict. It was a moving tribute, back-lit by a setting sun. Classmates were then provided a guided bus tour by night of Washington’s beautiful monuments and memorials. The next day we toured Arlington National Cemetery, where we observed the iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then were honored to present a beautiful customized 50th Company OC 24-69 wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. That evening we held our gala reunion banquet at the historic Washington Army and Navy Club. The banquet program focused on what the OCS experience and the camaraderie of 50th Company had meant in the shaping of our characters and personal qualities, using the recorded comments of dozens of classmates. On the final day of the reunion, we toured the House, Senate, and the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress.
